Built around the way you work
What I build
A web application captures how your organisation works: who is allowed to do what, which steps belong together and which data goes to which system. Work that is now spread across spreadsheets, inboxes and separate software packages comes together in one place, where everyone sees what belongs to their job.
Every project starts with a functional design: a document in plain language about what the application does, for whom, and in what order it gets built. That way you know what is coming and what it costs before development starts.
Why Laravel
Laravel is one of the most widely used PHP frameworks in the world, with a large community and a regular update cycle. It is made for applications that process data, with roles, permissions and rules of their own.
Laravel grows with you. An application starts with ten users and one process, and grows to hundreds of users and integrations with your other systems, on the same foundation. Automated tests check with every change that everything keeps working.
When to bring me in
When your work asks for more than spreadsheets and off-the-shelf software can offer.
Your work lives in spreadsheets
A member list, stock or a schedule in Excel. In an application, everyone works in the same data at the same time and sees what belongs to their job.
Your website has become an application
More and more has been added over the years. That part gets an application of its own in Laravel, connected to the site.
Your software almost does what you need
The last part runs on lists and manual work. A custom add-on or an application of your own takes that over.
What you get
What comes with every application.
- Functional design up front
You know what will be built and what it costs before development starts. - Delivery in phases
The most important part is in use early. You can adjust course after every phase. - Automated tests
Every change is checked. On larger projects in a CI/CD pipeline. - Roles and permissions
Everyone sees and does what belongs to their job. - One point of contact
The person you talk to is the person who builds it. From the first conversation through to maintenance. - Honest advice
I think along with you and tell you when something can be simpler, better or cheaper. - A long-term partnership
Work changes, and the application changes with it. Most clients stay for years. - Transferable
Code in Git, documented. Fellow freelancers step in during illness or holidays.
How it works
From the first conversation to a partnership that lasts for years.

Define
I write the functional design: what the application does, for whom, and in which phases.
Build
I deliver phase by phase. After each phase you work with it and adjust course.
Maintenance and ongoing development
I keep the application technically up to date, and it grows along as the work changes.

Pricing and maintenance
What it costs
An application starts with a paid preliminary study: the functional design. It sets out what will be built, in which phases and what each phase costs. You can start small and decide per phase whether to continue.
Maintenance and ongoing development
Those are two different things. Maintenance keeps the application secure and up to date: Laravel and PHP updates, under a maintenance contract with a fixed schedule. Ongoing development is the partnership after that. Users ask for improvements, connected systems change and your organisation grows, and the application grows with it.
Frequently asked questions
If it is mainly about pages with content, it is a website and WordPress fits best. If it is about data, roles and rules of your own, it is an application. Not sure? Then we figure it out in the first conversation.
Yes. If a system has an API, it can almost always be integrated. Which integrations are needed is set out in the functional design.
Yes, that is what delivery in phases is for. You start with the part you need most right now, work with it, and decide per phase how to continue.
Yes. I first look through the code and tell you what is good and what I would improve. Then I continue developing on what is there.
Daily, as a tool. AI writes a large part of the code, I review every line, and automated tests check that everything keeps working. Sensitive client data never goes into an AI.

Looking for a developer you can rely on for years? I’m Mark.
I develop websites, webshops and applications in WordPress and Laravel, and have since 2011, for clients including the University of Twente, Giro555 and iCulture. Most clients have worked with me for years.
Tell me what you want to achieve, and you’ll hear from me personally what I would do. Even if you don’t know yet exactly what you need.
