Why optimisation pays off
Why it pays off
Visitors give a website very little time. Google measured that the chance of someone on mobile leaving rises by 113% as load time goes from one to seven seconds. It works the other way too. In a study by Deloitte and Google of 37 brands, a mobile site one tenth of a second faster went hand in hand with 8.4% more conversions for online retailers. In an A/B test, Vodafone improved the load time of the largest element on the page by 31% and sold 8% more.
A fast, clear site is also easier to find. Google takes visitor experience into account in its search results, and AI assistants use the structure of your pages to understand what you offer.
What I look at
Speed is one part of it. A visitor who sees straight away where to click stays, and does what you hope they will do. That is why I look at the whole picture.
Speed: load time and Core Web Vitals. Usability: navigation, forms and calls to action that stand out and work. Technical SEO: structure, headings and structured data, so search engines and AI assistants understand what is on the page. And accessibility, so the site is usable for everyone.
When to bring me in
When speed, results or findability could be better.
Your site is slow
Pages load slowly, especially on mobile, and the Core Web Vitals could be better. A technical scan shows which cause weighs most and where you are best off starting.
Your site brings in too little
There are enough visitors, and yet enquiries or orders lag behind. I go through the site the way a visitor does and show you where they drop off.
Your site is hard to find
The content is good, and the technology underneath could be better: structure, load time, duplicate pages, and what a search engine or AI assistant gets to see of your site.
What you get
What comes with every scan and optimisation.
- A readable report
For each point the cause, the effect and the cost. At the top, a summary for whoever has to decide. - In order of impact
What makes the biggest difference comes first. - The same measurement before and after
So you can see what has improved. - Documentation of the site
What runs and why, so every next change is well thought through. - One point of contact
The person who does the scan also makes the improvements. - Honest advice
I tell you what makes the biggest difference, even if that is a small change. - A long-term partnership
A site stays good when someone knows it and looks after it. Most clients stay for years. - Easy to hand over
The report is usable by any developer. Changes are tracked in Git.
How it works
From the first conversation to a site that stays good.
Explore
We talk on the phone. What you are noticing, and what you want to achieve. Then I get access to the site.
Measure
I record the current state, go through the site and put the findings in order of impact.
Improve
I carry out what we agreed, first on a staging environment and then live.
Maintenance and ongoing development
The same measurement again. After that I keep the site up to date, so it stays good.

Pricing and maintenance
What it costs
The scan has a fixed price. So do the improvements that follow, once it is clear what needs doing. You choose which points you want carried out, so a small job is just as welcome as a big one.
Maintenance and ongoing development
An optimised site stays good when someone looks after it. That can be done under a maintenance contract: updates on a fixed schedule and a regular measurement. If you want to keep improving after that, it continues as ongoing development.
Frequently asked questions
With a measurement and a technical scan. After that you know why the site is slow or brings in too little, what improving it costs and which point makes the biggest difference. You choose what you want carried out.
Three values Google uses to measure how visitors experience your site: how quickly the page appears, how quickly it responds and how stable the layout stays. They count towards the search results.
Yes. The report is written so your agency can work with it too, and either I or they can make the improvements.
Yes. Assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude read your site the way a search engine does. A clear structure, good headings and structured data help them understand what you offer.
Well. I take care of the technical side, they handle the content and campaigns, and the findings from the scan are useful to both.

Looking for a developer you can rely on for years? I’m Mark.
I develop websites, webshops and applications in WordPress and Laravel, and have since 2011, for clients including the University of Twente, Giro555 and iCulture. Most clients have worked with me for years.
Tell me what you want to achieve, and you’ll hear from me personally what I would do. Even if you don’t know yet exactly what you need.
